Ok, reconnect the dots. "Pogrom" is a valid word to describe deliberate persecution based upon religion. My initial assertion was that there exists a belief by some Moslems that there is a deliberate program of persecution (which can be "idealized" as extermination of at least some forms) of Islam. And that this is not entirely irratieonal given GWBII's associations. Your rejoinder was that we haven't blown up Mecca. My reply, that Might is not an excluisive right. You protested that my reply did not address your rejoinder. My prior response was simply an assertion that blowing up Mecca is not an early or necessarily at all requisite for an alleged deliberate program of persecution, and whichever side of such rationalization one finds oneself. IOW, this thread consists of my initial assertion and subsequent demonstration that "... visit Mecca ... the stratosphere" is a non-sequitur. If my path to getting there has been abrasive it is an attempt to communicate just how insanely, (and dangerously) arrogant that rejoinder was. We may be the most militarily powerful nation in the world, but we've squandered a huge portion of that power in a desert trap and weakened ourselves economically and lost allies and huge amounts of credibility for it. An enemy could not have planned a better strategy to humiliate a once proud nation. -- TWZ |
