Re: OT: Very OT - Religion reading and .. all in one Golden Compass Challenged (Ontario)

All of these words are very fuzzy. By some standards I still consider myself a Christian (the parable of Christ is very powerful and I consider awe inspiring in the purely secular message of how human beings should relate to morality: we should be prepared to reflect, consider and if morally right, to entirely change the structure and direction of their lives, up to and including if necessary the ultimate self sacrifice).

But Dawkins has no problems with "Einsteinian" or naturalistic religions, where God is just a convenient label for what we don't know about the universe.

The real dividing line is belief in "supernatural" intervention in the operation of the universe. By that standard I certainly am an atheist, as would be most other avowed "agnostics".

But my epistemological problems with the concept of "believe" technically would leave me an agnostic. The problem with the word agnostic is that I disdain the use of ignorance to justify ignorance. Emotionally and for all practical purposes "atheist" is the best description.
